The retraction of the junk scientific paper “Electronic Cigarette Use and Myocardial Infarction Among Adults in the US Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health” by the Journal of American Heart Association is far to late executed.

A lot of misinformation has been created by publishing this junk scientific paper written by Glantz and Bhatta. Many newspapers published the headline and never read the report where prof. Glantz and Bhatta stated that heart attacks occured due to e-cigarettes, but… these heart attacks occured years before patients first used e-cigarettes!

Brad Rodu (Tobacco Truth) disclosed this secret in 15 minutes by analyzing the raw data Glantz and Bhatta used. He notified JAHA editors in july 2019 and asked for retraction. They refused at that time. Now, february 2020 the retraction is a fact, as is the public disclosure of this hidden secret in this junk scientific paper.

On january 20, 2020 sixteen experts in the field of science and policy wrote to JAHA to express their concerns about this Junk Scientific Paper of Glantz and Bhatta about fundamental flaws discovered.

quote from PubPeer:

In their letter of January 20, 2020, the co-signatories highlight two major failings in the paper.

1. That many of the heart attacks counted in the analysis occurred before the uptake of vaping and excluding these from the analysis voids the conclusion and overall premise of the paper.

2. That the authors were aware of data in the underlying survey that could have corrected this error- the respective timing of e-cigarette uptake and heart-attacks – but chose not to use it.

This fraud is a tremendous black spot on the already known questionable reputation of prof. Stanton Glantz. On twitter social media many vapers find this disgraceful behaviour!

It’s obvious that Glantz and Bhatta as scientists are not to be trusted. For the sake of Public Health in the US, the media better shouldn’t publish their junk scientific papers anymore. There should be an investigation for fraud to their other scientific papers about electronic cigarettes written in the past. That is something Public Health organizations in the US should do too..
